JOB VACANCY – LEAD PHARMACIST

On behalf of an internal client, Lets Heal Today, an outpatient-based healthcare provider, we are seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Lead Pharmacist to provide strategic, clinical, operational, regulatory, and commercial leadership for pharmacy services across the organisation.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer / Medical Director, the Lead Pharmacist will serve as the senior pharmacy authority responsible for ensuring compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board regulations, leading medication management systems, overseeing oncology pharmacy operations, supporting clinical research and clinical trials, and driving pharmacy procurement, inventory management, quality improvement, and business growth.
The role is critical in supporting the organisation’s goal of becoming a leading centre for oncology care, infusion therapy, clinical research, and integrated healthcare services in Kenya.
Please note that Lets Heal Today is an outpatient-based healthcare provider and does not offer inpatient admission, emergency department services, or critical care management.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
a) Strategic Pharmacy Leadership
Lead the design, implementation, growth, and standardization of pharmacy services across organizational sites.
Develop pharmacy strategic plans aligned with organizational objectives and support expansion of clinics, pharmacies, infusion centres, and healthcare facilities nationally.
b) Regulatory Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board requirements, Ministry of Health regulations, narcotic and psychotropic substance regulations, Good Pharmacy Practice, occupational health and safety standards, and hazardous drug handling requirements.
Lead pharmacy licensing, inspections, audits, SOP development, governance frameworks, and regulatory documentation.
c) Oncology Pharmacy & Infusion Services
Oversee oncology pharmacy operations, including safe preparation and dispensing of cytotoxic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, hormonal therapies, and supportive oncology medications.
Lead chemotherapy verification systems, aseptic compounding, cleanroom operations, medication safety, and implementation of validated oncology treatment plans.
d) Clinical Research & Clinical Trials Pharmacy
Serve as the Pharmacy Lead for clinical research and clinical trial activities.
Develop research pharmacy infrastructure, SOPs, investigational medicinal product management systems, accountability records, and compliance with Good Clinical Practice, sponsor requirements, ethics committees, and PPB research regulations.
e) Procurement, Inventory & Supply Chain Management
Lead pharmaceutical forecasting, procurement planning, supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, inventory tracking, cold-chain monitoring, expiry management, controlled drug management, and stock utilization systems.
f) Financial & Commercial Oversight
Develop pharmacy budgets, revenue projections, pricing strategies, billing support, reimbursement processes, and service expansion opportunities.
Support SHA, private insurance, and corporate billing processes while monitoring pharmacy profitability and expenditure.
g) Quality, Safety & Risk Management
Lead medication safety initiatives, pharmacovigilance systems, incident investigations, hazardous drug handling programs, cytotoxic waste management, and emergency preparedness planning for pharmacy operations.
h) Human Resource Management & Training
Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy teams while developing competency frameworks, continuing professional development programs, oncology pharmacy training, research pharmacy training, and succession planning.
i) National Pharmacy Expansion & Facility Development
Support establishment of pharmacy services in new facilities, cleanroom and compounding facility development, workflow planning, quality assurance, procurement systems, staffing structures, and satellite pharmacy team mentorship.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Pharmacy from a recognised institution.
- Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognised institution.
- Registered Pharmacist with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Kenya.
- Valid Annual Practising License.
- Master’s Degree in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or Business Administration is an added advantage.
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice, Oncology Pharmacy, Aseptic Compounding, Research Administration, or Nutrition is an added advantage.
- Minimum 7 years’ pharmacy practice experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in pharmacy leadership or management.
- Demonstrated experience in oncology pharmacy, clinical trials, procurement and inventory management, regulatory compliance, team leadership, healthcare facility development, and research.
